Short Description

SmartBackup is the ideal tool to do efficient lightweight backups of your personal files to an external harddisk, iPod, or network share. It is very fast because it only copies changed or new files using its built in powerful sync engine. And it is very easy to set up.

Long Description

SmartBackup knows where to find your files

You do not have to know where Mail, iCal, iWeb etc. store their files. SmartBackup knows it for you and offers several useful presets.

Backup or exclusion defined by Spotlight

With SmartBackup you can use Spotlights "Saved Searches" as backup items. That way files found by that searches can be backed up or excluded. Telling SmartBackup to "backup all files changed during the last week", "backup only purchased music out of the iTunes library" or "exclude all files with a red label", is just one click.

Backup to Harddisks or Network

SmartBackup supports backing up to any kind of harddisk, partition or network sharepoint. It is usable with your external harddisk, iPod, USB stick, iDisk, AFP, NFS, SMB, WebDAV, Airport Extreme or other network disks.

Smart archiving

SmartBackup lets you archive deleted or changed files in a time-stamped way. That way the backup stays clean and changed or deleted files are neatly kept in an archive where they are stored sorted by date and time of their removal.

Just in case - one click restore

SmartBackup stores all your files as they are inside the backup, including your backup configuration. You can take out individual files anytime. In case of emergency, when everything is lost, just download SmartBackup again, reselect your backup folder and restore your files with one click.

Easy automation with iCal or Automator

Scheduling your single backup can be done by just setting SmartBackup to autopilot and launch it using iCal. If more sophisticated tasks are required, like mounting sharepoints before backup, you can include SmartBackup easily in Automator workflows using the included Automator Action.

Pro flexibility: headless mode

Some people need to do that Unix stuff. Like running backups via ssh or cron. SmartBackup allows you run backups from the commandline as well.

Ready for Intel Macs and Leopard

SmartBackup is a "universal binary" that runs natively on PPC and Intel based Macs. SmartBackup supports MacOSX 10.5 Leopard.
